Help support greyhound adoption by donating your gently used or new shoes

Between October 15 and December 14, 4 Greyhound Racers is doing a shoe drive. We will receive money for every bag of shoes we collect, and that money will pay for the veterinary care, transportation, and other needs of retired racing greyhounds awaiting adoption. Since we are entirely volunteer run and lead, we rely on dononations to continue working.

1 bag = 25 pairs of shoes, and if we can fill 100 bags, we will raise approximately $1,000. The more bags we fill, the more money we will receive.

The shoes will be picked up by our fundraising partner and used to support micro-enterprise initiatives in developing nations around the world, including in such countries as Guatemala, Haiti, Indonesia, Botswana, and many, many more.

How Can You Help?

There are many ways to help us have a successful shoe drive:

*Gather your gently used shoes, and ask your friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers to gather up theirs, too. (Use our color or black & white posters to make it easier to spread the word.) Drop them off at one of the donation locations listed below, or contact us to arrange a pick-up if you gather a lot. Call/text us at 847-708-1868 or send us an e-mail.

*Go to our Facebook page and share our request with your friends. Go one step further and offer to be a drop-off point for your friends, too.

*Know any scouts, students or other volunteers who need to earn service hours? As a registered 501(c)3, 4 Greyhound Racers will be happy to help kids or groups who would like to help with the shoe drive. Since there's usually paperwork involved, call or e-mail us so we can make sure everything is in place for your scout or scholar to earn the hours they need.

*Do you own a local business, or know of a local business you would like to ask to put out a donation bin? We can help promote the business on our Facebook page and in our press releases about the drive, and will be happy to provide a letter thanking the business for their in-kind support.

*We are also looking for people willing to have their address listed on our website as local drop-off sites. Let us know if you are interested.

What Kind of Shoes Can We Accept?

*Shoes must be gently used or new, no holes, tears, or broken/separated soles.

*Shoes must be in pairs. No single shoes.

*Shoes can be any style, except skates. Mens, womens, and childrens shoes are accepted, and can include, for example, shoes, boots, slippers, flip flops, ballet or tap shoes, sandals, athletic shoes, or dress shoes.
